January : the month of garnet

According to legend, Noah used a lantern made of garnet to light the way
when sailing the Ark at night. This gem is well-known for its luminosity
when brightly coloured.
Used throughout the ages, garnet has only recently been discovered in
its various vivid colours : intense pinkish red with hints of purple, intense
orange or yellow-green, each of which have a unique and precise name.
Garnets embody a family of minerals with a strength between 7 and 7.5.
Present across the globe, the most well-known garnets come from Africa,
Sri Lanka and Brazil.
