Philippe Tournaire has developed this technique thanks to his passion for history. He found in flea markets, ancient intaglios with scenes of antiquity. This way of proceeding also allowed me to make a beautiful collection of medals, unique compared to what we find today.
It was in 1987-1988, when I was working on it already for 2 years to figure out how to use them. I did not want to make a simple reproduction of the motifs, so I imagined multiple footprints where I mixed scenes from different eras to create my own story. Always in the continuity of the idea of "organized disorder".
With Bas relief, I discovered the advantages of the lost wax casting technique, used for several centuries, with which I could reproduce perfectly any pattern. This gave me a much broader possibility of creation. The technique I have developed leaves room for defects: they are the symbol of the unity and exclusivity of the jewel.
